Huffington Post: “America Sucks”

The Jawa Report, um, reports on a Huffington Post columnist writing an essay on the theme that America’s self-image as a good and decent country is “delusional.”

America must acknowledge and apologize for the horrendous and violent atrocities it has committed throughout its history. In doing so, passionate objectors, maladjusted adolescents, and disillusioned immigrants may be more readily dissuaded to lay down their rage, their righteous frustration, and their stupefaction at the dark shadow of American history[…]

As early as middle school, children are ready to learn the truth about America. Instead of teaching our kids, as the Texas’ Board of Education has chosen to, that America’s history is an exemplar of virtue, we must reconstruct our national historical curriculum to more truthfully mirror our past. There are plenty of books and perspectives that reflect a more honest version of American history; Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky and Amy Goodman must be introduced to our youth far sooner than college.

So, what he is saying is, the grown-ups in the USA need to pander to adolescent America-haters, by teaching them that America is an awful country and deserves to be hated… because this will make them stop hating America.

Yeah, that makes sense.

The world would be a horror show if the USA had never existed. If this guy hates the most generous country in the history of the world, the country that has done the most to improve the condition of human existence worldwide, the country that has served as a model for other decent societies, I’d hate to see how he feels about countries that have been less helpful to their fellow humans.

  2. Howard Zinn??? This article was published with 2 weeks of him being outed as a card-carrying America-hating Communist and STILL they praise his version of US history??? Oh, wait… in their minds that’s actually just further validation of him and his views! Sorry, at times I forget these people are teh nutz!
