Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year

One Democrat strategerist thinks he knows how to keep his party in power come November. (Hat Tip: Gay Patriot)

If Democrats are to hold on in November, they must follow Reagan’s tack, sketching a vision for the future that has the United States leading the globe with the world’s strongest economy — one fueled by private-sector growth and a successful middle class.

But they don’t want that. American prosperity and leadership, to most Democrats, is a bad thing. Progressives constantly harp on how the USA has 5% of the world’s people but consumes 20% of the world’s resources. It follows that fairness demands that our standard of living (our prosperity) be reduced 75%. And leadership just leads to icky wars and stuff.

As Steve Forbes put it, they want to “change America from a greedy nation to a quiet socialist nation that knows its place in the world.”

Or, to paraphrase Fallout Boy (in the appropriately titled “Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year“), they’re willing to burn the city down to show us the light. Come to think of it… there’s a lot of wisdom in the lyrics to that song.

We’re the therapists pumping through your speakers
Delivering just what you need
We’re well read and poised
We’re the best boys
We’re the chemists who’ve found the formula
To make your heart swell and burst
No matter what they say, don’t believe a word

Cause I’ll keep singing this lie if you’ll keep believing it
I’ll keep singing this lie
I’ll keep singing this lie

Are we growing up or just going down?
It’s just a matter of time until we’re all found out
Take her tears, put them on ice
Cause I swear I’d burn this city down to show you the light

The best part of “Believe” is the “Lie”,
I hope you sing along and you steal a line
I need to keep you like this in my mind
So give in or just give up
