Census: Bad News for the GOP

Early reports from the census:

Losers: New York (-2), Ohio (-2), Illinois (-1), Iowa(-1), Louisiana(-1), Massachusetts(-1), Michigan(-1), Missouri(-1), New Jersey(-1), and Pennsylvania(-1).

Most of those states are democrat-controlled, so expect the Gerrymandering to eliminate any Republican gains from the 2010 elections.

Winners: Texas (+4), Florida (+2), Arizona (+1), Georgia (+1), Nevada (+1), South Carolina (+1), Utah (+1) and Washington (+1).
A lot of those states have been Californicated, so I would think the balance of those seats would go Democrat as well.

So you are saying, from the Republican perspective, heads I lose, tails you win? There has to be some upside to moving seats from blue states to red states. This is where control of state legislatures becomes so important. There will likley be Republican gains in State houses as well.

  2. I am grim because most of the shift is due to voters leaving blue states (California, Massachusetts, New York) and taking their voting habits to red states (Arizona, Nevada, Florida).
